First Night Away

Friday was my first night fully away from Ethan and Michael and I honestly was really nervous about it. Would I freak out in the middle of the night and want to be home? What happens if Ethan decided never to fall asleep? All of the typical worries went through my mind.

The retreat went really well and being able to FaceTime definitely helped (as did quality time with the saber staff and a saber prom). It honestly seemed like Ethan recognized me. He got his excited squeal where inhales loudly and his breathing gets more rapid. He also kept trying to grab the phone in what could be described as an attempt to hug me (or just an opportunity to eat the phone). It was a great way to "see him" and feel a little bit more of a connection despite not being able to hold him.

Michael was great with Ethan and I think got a little bit more of a taste of how it feels to be the one getting up in the middle of the night and therefore a bit more of mom appreciation. I continued fishing for compliments after his experience. " so...did you realize anything new about me as a mom? Any new takeaways?" He was quite gracious.

All's well that ends well...
