As many of you know, Halloween used to be my favorite holiday! After graduating from college (and literally not making much money as a 1st year teacher), I spent over $200 at the mask store in Ithaca when visiting there for Homecoming weekend. Clearly, I did not have budgeting under control. Anyway, after moving to New York and seeing how Halloween has been viewed as a scary day for my students and families, I haven't really ventured out over the past few years and always approach Halloween hoping that there are no major fights/catastrophes in the neighborhood around school.
Halloween with a child, however, is a completely different story. Park Slope has a kids' parade where families walk down 7th Avenue in their costumes, stores host all of the trick n treaters, and parents sit on their stoops drinking wine! This year, Ethan was a little too small to venture out and the Halloween parade was cancelled, but we still celebrated a bit on Warren Street! Thanks to the sabers for Ethan's first Halloween outfit! We can't wait until next year!
