Happy 3 Month Birthday, Ethan!

Ethan is three months old! According to Margaret Mahler, this is when babies "hatch" and come out of their "shells" and begin reacting and relating to the world around them! This means more social interaction and social smiles! So exciting! And yes, he clearly still looks like a spitting image of Michael. :)

What's up with E: He is smiling like crazy and his personality is starting to come out more and more! He is just starting to sleep more at night which is definitely a ROCO move. I feel like there just might be light at the end of the tunnel... E is close to 15 pounds now which is amazing considering he was born a month early and was down to 6 lbs 2 oz at the start.

A few other things we've noticed:
  • Ethan can hold his head up now with only a little bit of bobbing around! He is almost ready for the bumbo.
  • He brings both legs up at the same time instead of the one-legged kicks.
  • He grabs his blue/green rattle and holds on to other things for brief periods of time.
  • He has been sleeping in his crib and has hit his record of sleeping for one six hour stretch at night!
  • He smiles at different songs and has been giggling more and more.
  • Ethan holds eye contact for a long time and gives us big smiles!
  • Ethan sleeps in his crib UNSWADDLED. This is a huge transition that started two nights ago.
  • He swats your hand away when he doesn't want it near him. Let's hope this isn't a sign of what's to come and that his language will enable him to tell us what he does/does not want.
  • He is fixated with moving objects--the mobile in his room, fans, the washing machine, his activity mat, etc.
  • He is more content with alone time and can entertain himself for longer periods of time.
  • His eyelashes have gotten even longer!
  • His legs have gotten stronger and he can hold himself up when we are holding him. He also decides to lock his legs if he doesn't want us to put on his pajamas.
  • He likes being in public places--he's often at his best at the beer garden, cafe, etc. where he is able to see other people and take things in.
  • During tummy time, he is able to hold his head up and pull his shoulders back.
Here's the little gentleman outfitted in a new onesie from Josette!
