Yes, you read that right. Within the privacy of 110 4th Avenue, I am perfecting my puppeteering skills. (Ravi, I might need your help with voices!)
Please note that I would have never predicted I would be having this conversation with a store owner in Union Square completely sober.
Me: "I'm looking for a puppet for my six week old son. Which do you think he would like best given his age? Is there one that is particularly more stimulating for infants?"
Store Owner: "Well, you can choose between little people, little monsters, or little animals."
Me: "What is the difference between little monsters or little animals?"
Store Owner: "Monsters are monsters and animals are animals."
Me: Duh! "Um, okay. Well, since babies seem to like seeing faces and can recognize them maybe I should go with a little person, but the little animals and monsters are bright and might also be exciting for him."
Insert long pause here.
Me: "Let me text my husband and see what he thinks."
I texted Michael the pictures of the various monsters, animals, and people and asked him to help me choose.
Me: "I think we'll end up getting a little person."
Store Owner: "I think that sounds like a good idea. If I had a six week old, that's what I would do. Now you just have to decide if you want a girl or a boy and what type of hair you'd like him to have."
So many choices. We ultimately decided on a guy with curly hair although I have to admit I love the snail and grasshopper below. And there you have it. Maybe I'll get another and have Ravi come over to do various voices with them. So many good times await us...
