Baby Wearing

We received three separate carriers because I wasn't sure what Ethan was going to like (and what I was going to be comfortable with). In case you're curious, they were the Moby Wrap, Baby Bjorn, and Ergo Baby Carrier.

1. The Moby Wrap looked cool and I've seen many Park Slope moms rocking them. Plus I've read that it was one of the best ways to simulate the womb; however, have you tried it? The material is 20 feet long and it is intimidating as hell to figure out HOW this piece of material could hold your baby! This carrier didn't seem very masculine to me and I really couldn't imagine Michael rocking it (see picture below!), but I did get a solid black wrap courtesy of my friend Jaime. I practiced with a stuffed animal and Martha helped me figure out this beast of a carrier. Full disclosure, I haven't yet tried putting Ethan in it...and truly can't imagine doing that without someone else's help!

2. The Baby Bjorn seemed easy and straight forward, but I've read that it is only able to be used until your baby reaches 15 pounds. Many friends said they LOVED it. I've also read that it isn't necessarily good for the mother/father's back OR good for the baby's hips. This carrier seemed gender-neutral to me, but the commercial below is RIDICULOUS. Are they picking each other up? Are they a couple already? Regardless, super cheesy. The directions for this carrier states that the baby needs to be 8 pounds to use it so Ethan is just a few ounces short....

3. The Ergo carrier seemed to be the best on your hips/back and based on the packaging can be used when the baby is an infant and as the baby gets larger. The infant insert is almost like a padded wrap that sticks inside of the Ergo. It's a little more hardcore than the others and has a number of clips that take the pressure off of your back! I could totally see Michael rocking this one.

Anyway, to make a long story short, today we tried the Ergo and it was amazing how nice it was to go on a walk and be hands-free! Ethan seemed happy and I was able to regulate the heat by having him close to me!  I am still trying to figure out how warm to dress him before going outside and I am terrified that he will catch a cold so I put him in a blue snuggly suit and then stuffed him in the infant insert and into the carrier itself. We walked a few miles and Ethan stayed asleep the entire time! It was much less stressful then strapping him into his car seat and navigating the rickety stroller throughout the slope! Baby-wearing day one a success!

Snug as a bug in his blue suit!

I wasn't sure how comfy he was here, but two minutes later Ethan was sound asleep!

The full look!
On our walk, we saw saber print everywhere--even at the local lingerie shop. Everyone has Saber Nation on the brain!
Post walk, Ethan seemed quite into Leo and then proceeded to pee all over the bed. Aaah, the joys of a boy.
